Bernard Rooke Brutalist Ceramics

A single-owner collection of lamps and vases designed by the well-known British artist and sculptor Bernard Rooke (b. 1938)

Bernard Rooke

Bernard Rooke is a British studio potter, painter and printmaker, recognised for his highly individual, sculptural ceramics associated with the Brutalist aesthetic of the mid-20th century.
Born in Ipswich, he studied at Ipswich School of Art and later Goldsmiths College, London, where he turned to ceramics. In 1960 he set up a studio in London, developing a distinctive hand-built style characterised by bold forms and heavily textured surfaces.
In 1967 he moved to Suffolk, where his pottery flourished, producing both unique sculptural works and commercially successful lamp bases. His work is held in major collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, and remains highly sought after today.
