Buying & Selling - Buying

All customers require a client registration number before buying or selling in any of our auctions, unless using the-saleroom.com, I-bidder.com or Bidspotter.co.uk (There is a one off £5.00 charge for a client registration card)

Registration:

You will be required to provide basic information to obtain a client registration card i.e your name, address, telephone number and email along with one proof of identification.

Required Identification :- pictured driving license or utility bill – dated within last 3 months (please note a passport is not a proof of address).

In return you will receive a permanent reference card number this can be used at any W&H Peacock Auction Centre at Bedford, St Neots or Locke & England Leamington Spa and at auctions we conduct at off site premises. This card must be used whenever you buy or sell.

The golden rule for anyone hoping to buy at auction is to thoroughly inspect the lot you are interested in before bidding, as no warranty or guarantee is given with anything that is sold. For this reason the auction centre is open for viewing every Friday from 8.30am – 8pm and on the Saturday morning of each sale from 8.30am. Our Antiques sales are held on the first Friday of each month and can be viewed on the Thursday prior between 9am and 6pm and the Friday evening one week before the sale between 5.30pm and 8pm.

How to Bid:

Most people still like to attend the auction in person and bid for the lots they are interested in as they come up. You may think you are the only nervous newcomer in the sale room but there are first time buyers every week and the auctioneers are quite used to helping out novice buyers. The commonly held misconception that if you scratch your ear during a sale you are likely to be landed with something very expensive and unwanted is quite untrue. The unique number on your client registration card not only makes it easier to administer the sale, it also helps you bid clearly.

How do I pay?

All lots must be paid for on the day of the sale and difficulties will arise if you are unable to comply with this condition. We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards for payment. If you are successful in purchasing an item in the sale, the invoices are prepared in the main office. Once you have paid for an item you will be given a copy of this invoice which you will need to show to the porter in the sale room before you are allowed to remove your purchases. Payment by credit card attracts a 3% surcharge in addition to the total purchase price.

Please always remember that the lots purchased are at your own risk from the fall of the hammer, it is therefore in your own interest to get everything home as soon as possible.

Email Invoices

If you supply us with your up to date email address we are now able to forward invoices for successful purchasers after each sale.
